Steve Clarke predicts the Championship play-off winners

Hull City KC Stadium

Hull City, Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County and either Brighton and Hove Albion or Middlesbrough will be there this year.

Steve Clarke has suggested to Sky Sports, broadcast May 6th, that he believes Hull City will win the Championship play-offs.

Three out of the four play off teams have already been confirmed, with Sheffield Wednesday, Hull City and Derby County in the top six.

The final team is yet to be decided, with Middlesbrough and Brighton fighting it out on Saturday to secure fourth placed.

The lottery of the play offs means there can be no favourites despite the gap in points between the four sides.

When pressed to pick who he thinks will progress though, Clarke says he would pick Steve Bruce’s Hull City as his victors.

“They’re all good teams, Sheffield Wednesday have done well to get in there,” he told Sky Sports.

“But if you had to pin me down, I think Hull City. I’m surprised that Hull didn’t get into the top two.”

“When you looked at them earlier in the season, with Steve Bruce’s experience, they looked like a team that would come through automatically.”

Hull City will certainly be disappointed to find themselves in the play offs given they started the season so well.

As Clarke says, the experience of manager Steve Bruce could be crucial as he has led sides from the Championship on several occasions before now.

One of those was a play off win with Birmingham back in 2002, and he will be hoping that knowledge can serve him well in what promises to be an exciting affair.
