Paul Merson has responded to questions about Arsenal and Tottenham, discussing the rivalry and a comparison between two promising players.
Speaking on the SkySports Fantasy Football Club podcast, the pundit was quizzed as to whether he feels Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere can reach the same level of performance Dele Alli has done for Tottenham this season.
Wilshere has missed the entire season through injury, although has recently returned for the under-21s and could figure at Euro 2016 for England.
Merson responded: "If he gets fit he would, yes."
Wilshere has more seasons under his belt in the top flight than Alli, but the Spurs ace has netted more goals for his club in just one season than the Arsenal man has in several campaigns at Arsenal.
Merson, an ex-Arsenal player was also asked the blunt question... 'why do you hate Spurs?'
Almost sighing, as if he was asked the question on a regular basis, he responded: "I don't know.... because I played for Arsenal that was the was I was brought up, Arsenal didn't like Tottenham, Tottenham didn't like Arsenal.
"I like the way they play football, they have been bang unlucky this year. They have been the best team. That's it."
The two teams are competing for second spot in the league behind newly crowned champions Leicester City, with Tottenham three points ahead with two games each remaining.
