Newcastle United face Aston Villa this weekend.
Newcastle United fullback Paul Dummett says boss Rafa Benitez regularly reminds the players to concentrate on one game at a time as the season comes to a conclusion, the club’s official website report.
Newcastle head to Aston Villa this weekend in a huge match at the bottom of the Premier League table.
It’s an encounter many Newcastle players and supporters will have targeted weeks ago as a huge opportunity to pick up all three points, considering the woeful campaign which Villa have endured.
Benitez, however, urges his players to focus only on the game ahead and defender Dummett shares how his boss also tells the squad no to get too caught up in what is going on around them.
"Ever since Rafa (Benitez) has came in he has told us to concentrate on one game at a time," Dummett told the club’s official website.
"We're not looking at what happened previously or what is going on with other teams - we are purely focused on preparing as well as we can for the next game and making sure we pick up three points.”
"I think we've looked like a hard team to beat and we've kept a couple of clean sheets, which we will be looking to carry on in the Villa game.”
Villa are currently bottom of the Premier League table, and they head in to this weekend’s fixture with the Magpies on an incredible run of 11 straight league defeats.
Newcastle, in contrast, are four games unbeaten and their recent good run sees them occupy 17th spot.
With Sunderland facing Chelsea and Norwich City hosting Manchester United, this weekend could see Rafa Benitez’s side momentarily give themselves some breathing space ahead of the season finale.
