The striker was in form for Liverpool once again on Thursday.
The striker has found himself out of contention at Liverpool in recent months as Divock Origi has started ahead of him.
However, when he has played he has shown his worth with a series of impressive performances.
He did just that on Thursday evening as he was the star man in his side’s 3-0 win over Villarreal in the Europa League semi finals.
He is among those in contention for a place in England’s squad for Euro 2016 this summer, and for Clarke, he is their number one striker when fit.
“I think a fit Daniel Sturridge is probably top [for England],” he told Sky Sports.
“He can beat a man easy, he can score with his right foot or left foot and he’s a quality player. The big issue it to get him fit but he’s a goalscorer.”
While there is no denying Sturridge’s quality, it seems unlikely he will be an England starter this summer.
That is down to the form of Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, who has enjoyed a second successive campaign at the top of the Premier League scoring charts.
Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy has also shone, and few would argue that both should be behind Sturridge in the England line up in France this summer.
