Klopp and Emery are set to face each other in the Europa League final after Liverpool defeated Villarreal 3-1 on aggregate while Sevilla advanced with a 5-3 aggregate win over Shakhtar Donetsk.
It will be Sevilla’s third successive Europa League final, having won the previous two tournaments, while for Liverpool boss Klopp it will be his second European final after previously guiding former club Borussia Dortmund to a Champions League final, losing 2-1 to fellow German side Bayern Munich.
Both managers have experienced impressive campaigns at their respective sides, but former Liverpool midfielder Aquilani suggests Emery’s work is more impressive when asked to weigh them up.
“Who do I prefer between Klopp and Emery? I'm more surprised by Emery because he does extraordinary work: we played against him last year and we lost in a shocking manner, he's incredibly organized,” the Italian told GianlucaDiMarzio.
Emery is one of the most underrated managers in the game, and it comes as a great surprise to see him often overlooked when big Premier League jobs become available.
The Spaniard guided Almeria to the top-flight for the first ever time before taking over Valencia, helping Los Che to regular top-three finishes in La Liga before leaving after heavy fan pressure.
Emery’s work at Sevilla is testament to his ability, and at 44 he no doubt still has many years left in the game.
