Wilfred Bouma speaks highly of the Aston Villa fans

The former Villa defender has been reminiscing about his time at the club.

It has been a tough season for Aston Villa. The club have suffered both on and off the pitch and will be playing in the Championship from the start of next season.

Throughout it all the Villa fans have continued turning up for the club and have been rightly critical of their players. Despite that they have stuck by the club and will now be hoping to thrive in the second tier of English football.

One former Villa player, who was something of a fan favourite, has now been speaking about the Villa faithful.

Wilfred Bouma spent five eventful years at Aston Villa and the Dutch international has told the club’s official website just how much the Villa fans meant to him during his time at the club:

"Definitely the supporters (is what I miss most). I had a difficult first year because I had to adapt to the English style.

"But after that I became popular and that is something I will always remember - how much the fans appreciated me.

"One of those things in my career that I will always remember is that I played for the Villa. They will always be in my heart."

Bouma is right to praise the Villa fans, who will now be hoping to see the players and the club reward their support with some major changes in the summer and improved results in the Championship from next term.

Maybe if they brought in some players similar to Bouma then Villa’s results would soon improve.
