Paul Merson criticises West Bromwich Albion fans

Paul Merson suggests West Brom fans should be happy with where they are.

Former Premier League midfielder Paul Merson has suggested West Bromwich Albion fans should be content with where they are at present.

The Baggies are in 14th position, clear of the relegation scrap but too far away from the top 10 to break into it with two games to go.

Merson was talking during the SkySports Fantasy Football Club podcast question and answer session, responding to a Baggies fan who was critical of his regular predictions going against his side.

The former Aston Villa midfielder responded: "I don't hate them, because I like Tony Pulis. I just think the fans get a bit carried away.

"They are middle of the table, may be three massive football clubs are getting relegated, and West Brom fans are still not happy."

West Brom are on a poor run of form, collecting just two points from six games in April, and lost 3-0 in front of their home fans to West Ham last week.

Their last win came on March 6 against Manchester United, which was a superb performance for the team, but they have been consistently underwhelming since, and the style of football Pulis plays is always going to attract criticism, especially if the results are not there.

This season has shown that clubs can dare to dream, with Leicester City winning the Premier League, and West Brom supporters can't be blamed for wanting more than simply hovering around 14th place year after year.
