The French pair have been released from their contracts early.
The club decided to let the two players leave the club now, despite the fact the season is ongoing, rather than in the summer so they can begin a search for a new club.
It would be fair to say that neither player ever really hit the heights at Newcastle United.
Obertan, a 2011 signing from Manchester United, struggled with a strong of injuries during his time at the club.
He played just 69 times for the club in six seasons and has not featured since a 2-2 draw with Chelsea in September.
Marveaux also joined the club in 2011 from Rennes and has also battled injury problems. He had a good term on loan at Guingamp in 2014-15 but has struggled at Newcastle. He has played just 57 times for the club and has not featured for Newcastle since March 2014.
Whilst the majority of Newcastle fans will not be too sad to see the back of the French pair most have wished them well in their futures away from St James’ Park…
Says a lot about Gabriel Obertan and Sylvain Marveaux that they were given 'settlements' to leave just weeks before end of the season. #nufc— Miles Starforth (@milesstarforth) May 5, 2016
Newcastle release obertan and marveaux. Almost better news than if we stay up. #NUFC— Gordon Laing (@GordLaing) May 5, 2016

Marveaux & Obertan leaving might suggest Rafa will be there next season regardless of what league were in. #nufc— Callum Wright (@callumwright90) May 5, 2016
#NUFC have spent £31.2M in wages on Obertan & Marveaux— NUFC Global (@NUFC_Global) May 5, 2016
That's the same amount Madrid pay Bale & Ronaldo combined a year
Let that sink in!
Gabriel Obertan and Sylvain Marveaux departing #nufc. Mighty not be their biggest fan. But good luck to them for the future.— NAS (@nas_nufc) May 5, 2016
hmm... so releasing Marveaux and Obertan? I think it's good for them. If we stay up they'd never get in, if we go down its youth time— Headlock Master (@NUFC_monkey) May 5, 2016
Always thought Marveaux should have played more in the beginning, Obertan had potential but never saw him at his best enough #nufc— Ross Lindsay (@RossLindsay22) May 5, 2016
Can't say I'm sorry to see Obertan and Marveaux go. Obertan had his moments but this should be the start of a much needed clearout #nufc— Anthony (@tonezone0) May 5, 2016
