Liverpool players cannot relax over future, admits Lucas Leiva

Jurgen Klopp is expected to be busy in the transfer window this summer.

Lucas Leiva has admitted Liverpool’s players cannot relax about their futures at the club, in comments to the Liverpool Echo.

The Reds are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window, with Jurgen Klopp likely to add several players to his squad.

At the same time, many are anticipating there could be a fire sale of the current players as the German offloads those who do not suit his needs.

Lucas, who has impressed since Klopp took charge in October, could be among those in danger and he admits the players cannot relax as they do not know what is going to happen.

“I would be lying if I said we were are all relaxed in terms of this because we don’t really know what’s going to happen,” he told the Liverpool Echo.

“I think in my experience you need to live the moment, try to play well and if you want to be here in the future do your best and the future will take care of itself.”

“It’s a question of time and doing what we can and if it works it will be brilliant, if not then we will have to find a solution.”

This summer is certainly gearing up to be a busy one for the Reds as Klopp looks to mould the squad he inherited from Brendan Rodgers.

Chief among his priorities must be the defence, with that arguably the weakest area of the current Liverpool team.

He has already moved to secure Joel Matip on a free transfer from Schalke, but he is unlikely to be the only defensive arrival at Anfield.

Mamadou Sakho’s drugs suspension could play a crucial role in deciding how busy they are though, with it so far unknown how long he will be missing from the side as that investigation continues.
