The winger has been highly impressive for Newcastle United in recent weeks.
The winger had initially struggled at St James’ Park following a move from Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window.
He has since proved to be a smart capture though, with a series of impressive performances under Rafa Benitez having been key to their late turnaround in form.
There are now calls for him to be given a chance by England manager Roy Hodgson for Euro 2016 this summer.
And Ferdinand says if he continues as he has then he will certainly catch the eye of the Three Lions boss.
“He’s gone there and people questioned his price tag but he’s shown his worth,” he told Sky Sports.
“He’s scoring the goals and he’s putting in performances that mean he will catch the eye of the England manager.”
“If he can continue that, and Newcastle can stay in the division then it gives himself every chance of being on the plane. He gives you a different option.”
With the likes of Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Theo Walcott also being considered, both of whom have struggled this season, the Townsend should certainly be look at also.
He has been in fine form in the last few weeks, with him looking vital to the Magpies chances of staying up.
A big bonus for him is hat Hodgson is well known for having his favourite players and sticking by them, and the winger has been on that list in the past.
