Former Everton midfielder Kevin Kilbane backs Martin O'Neill for Goodison Park hotseat

The Irish midfielder believes that O'Neill could do well at Everton.

There has been plenty of conjecture in recent weeks regarding the future of Everton boss Roberto Martinez.

The Spaniard has been criticised by plenty of Everton fans in recent weeks after an inconsistent season and many would like to see him leave the club in the summer.

When it comes to a potential replacement one name that has recently been mooted is that of Martin O’Neill.

The Republic of Ireland boss is potentially set to leave the national job in the summer and the odds on him becoming the new Everton boss were slashed recently, as reported by the Belfast Telegraph.

Now a former Everton midfielder has been discussing O’Neill as a potential Everton manager.

Kevin Kilbane, a former Republic of Ireland international who spent his best years at Everton, has told the Irish Examiner:

“I think it’s a club that he could manage well.

“I think it would suit him the way he is and the way Everton are.”

O’Neill’s last job in club management was with Sunderland and he has performed wonders in the past with the likes of Leicester City, Celtic and Aston Villa.

Everton are currently 11th in the Premier League and despite making two cup semi-finals many an Evertonian is after a change.

Kilbane clearly feels O’Neill would succeed at the club.
