Tottenham Hotspur have been credited with shock interest in Newcastle United loanee Florian Thauvin.
Thauvin signed for Newcastle last summer, but failed to adjust to the Premier League, and was sent back on loan to Marseille.
French outlet BeIN Sports report, cite Le10Sport, that Tottenham are one of four clubs linked with signing the Frenchman, along with Valencia, Lazio, and Inter Milan.
Thauvin, 23, has plenty of potential and could have more success at Spurs, but has had a difficult campaign at both clubs, failing to score or provide an assist in 13 appearances for Newcastle, and netting just twice in 14 games for an out of form Marseille.
Mauricio Pochettino's track record would suggest the Argentine could get the best out of him, but Thauvin owes it to Newcastle to give it a go under Rafa Benitez next season.
This may depend on the club securing their Premier League survival, both both Benitez and Thauvin to consider sticking around, but it would be more likely Newcastle would keep the Frenchman rather than let him join another Premier League side.
Spurs will be able to offer Champions League football, and Newcastle could decide to cut their losses, but seeing him succeed at another English side could be worse than watching him fail at St James' Park, at least knowing with the latter, that they tried to make it work.
