Sturridge to be dropped for Villarreal clash, predicts Phil Babb

Liverpool take on Villarreal in the Europa League semi final on Thursday.

Jurgen Klopp will drop Daniel Sturridge for Liverpool’s Europa clash with Villarreal, Phil Babb has told LFC TV.

Liverpool host Villarreal at Anfield on Thursday in the second leg of their Europa League semi final.

They need to score in the game having lost the first leg 1-0 in Spain, courtesy of a last minute strike from the home side.

Whether star striker Daniel Sturridge starts is a lingering question though, with him having been left on the bench in that game in Spain.

And Babb believes he will stay there on Thursday, as Klopp does not fancy the energy he is getting from him.

“It will be interesting to see who the manager starts with on Thursday,” he told LFC TV.

“I have a feeling he’s going to stick with Firmino because he likes him. I just don’t think he fancies the energy he’s getting out Daniel Sturridge at the moment.”

“And then you don’t know what you’re going to get with Benteke. It’s a tough call. I wouldn’t like to be Jurgen picking that team sheet.”

If Sturridge is dropped once again on Thursday, it is only likely to further increase speculation about his future at the club.

The striker has been linked with a move away having found himself first replaced in the first team by Divock Origi and now Roberto Firmino.

He is unlikely to be please with that situation long term, and another benching in the second leg against Villarreal could see him looking to leave this summer.
