Rio Mavuba warns Sofiane Boufal that Premier League move might be a mistake

Lille

Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with a move for the player.

It was recently reported that Tottenham Hotspur were set to step up their interest in the Lille playmaker Sofiane Boufal.

Footmercato reported that Spurs were ready to spend €20 million (£15.7 million) for the player, plus bonuses and would be prepared to offer him a five-year deal to head to White Hart Lane.

Boufal’s season has come to a premature end with a minor knee injury and that means he might have played his final game for Lille – with Tottenham just one team said to be keen on his signature.

However, he has been given some advice this week by a Lille team-mate, telling him to stay at the club.

Rio Mavuba has warned Boufal that he should not make the move as he would not be assured of regular first-team football. He is quoted by MaxiFoot as stating:

"Sofiane, he must be starting, the advice I give him is that he plays.

"Being the fourth choice at a big club, it serves no purpose.

"Initially it was complicated with him but after the first three or four months he has exemplary behavior, he has great stats, saw the talent he has, he can go very far."

Tottenham’s interest in Boufal comes with good reason.

The Morocco international has been a sensation at Lille since joining from Angers in January last year.

This season he has hit 12 goals in 34 games from attacking midfield and the 22-year-old looks a potential star in the making.
