Newcastle star Georginio Wijnaldum hoping for bit of luck to end goal drought

The Dutchman has not scored for the Premier League side since January.

Georginio Wijnaldum believes that he just needs a bit of luck to end his wait for a goal that could be crucial to Newcastle's chances of remaining in the Premier League, the Shields Gazette reports.

The 25-year-old is the Magpies' top goalscorer this season but has not added to his tally of nine strikes since the victory over West Ham in January.

But after coming close against both Manchester City and Crystal Palace in recent weeks, the Dutchman is confident that with some fortune, he will be able to reach double figures before the campaign draws to a conclusion.

"Let's hope I can get another goal," he told the Shields Gazette.

"I was unlucky. It was good action. The defender of Palace was standing in the way of the shot.

"You need a bit of luck at times. I will keep searching for the chances to get a goal."

While Rafael Benitez's men are currently outside the bottom three, both Norwich and Sunderland are within touching distance and have a game in hand which could see them move above Newcastle.

So with the club's next game seeing them travel to face already-relegated Aston Villa, Benitez will be hoping that the better finishers in the squad bring their best game to ensure that they avoid letting a golden opportunity to secure three vital points slip from their grasp, especially as they face a Tottenham side on the final day that will be looking to finish a promising campaign on a high.
