The midfield duo, alongside Jamie Vardy, has been key for the Foxes this season as they have secured the most unlikely of Premier League titles.
Claudio Ranieri’s side are naturally not keen on losing them at any point in time, with talks over a new deal sure to be opened.
However rumours of exits for both have already begun to surface while several European giants have already been linked with moves for the duo.
And Merson says he would be shocked if both are still at the club next season, especially if Kante heads to Euro 2016 with France.
"I worry Riyad Mahrez and N'Golo Kante could leave," he told Sky Sports. "I don't see a problem with [Leicester top scorer] Jamie Vardy, as I don't think anyone will pay a lot of money for him at 29 years old, but the other two stars are a worry.
"Kante will be at the Euros and his France teammates will be going: 'Oh, my manager wants you'. He's going to have his head twisted. I'd be shocked if those two were there next season."
This summer will certainly be an interesting one for Leicester given that many are expecting their squad to be disassembled by the bigger teams.
Why any of their players would want to leave is a question worth asking though, given they are guaranteed both first-team football and playing time at the King Power stadium.
The latter may not be easy to come by at another club and a stay with the Foxes may be a smart one for their careers.
