Carlos Carvalhal confirms Fernando Forestieri will be rested for Sheffield Wednesday’s match against Wolverhampton Wanderers

Sheffield Wednesday have already confirmed their place in the Championship play offs.

Carlos Carvalhal has confirmed to the Sheffield Star that Fernando Forestieri will be out of Sheffield Wednesday’s match against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend.

Wednesday have already booked their place in the play offs, after they beat Cardiff City last weekend.

It means that Carvalhal could use the opportunity to freshen his side up before the promotion deciding contests.

A number of Wednesday players are expected to be rested at Molineux at the weekend, and Carvalhal says that he simply does not want to take any risks with his key players.

“Fernando will be out of the game,” Carvalhal said. “With the play-offs coming up, why would I take any risks?

“We took Fernando off in the second half against Cardiff because if he had picked up another yellow card he would have been completely out of the rest of the season. We want to be with him so we didn’t take any risks.”

Wednesday head into the play offs as the outsiders for promotion, but they have been in excellent form.

The Owls got off to a slow start to the campaign, but they have progressively climbed to table and booked their place in the top six with time to spare.

Wednesday’s opponents in the play offs are still not known, but it will be between Middlesbrough and Brighton.

Boro and Brighton are going for one place in the top two, with Burnley’s promotion already confirmed.
