Areas in need of attention?

Whichever division Newcastle are in, streamlining the squad will be the priority for whoever's in charge this summer. As it stands, the Magpies will have 31 senior players on their books next term and that could grow if any of their six out of contract players are retained. Newcastle have nine contracts expiring in 2017 and shedding some of those names would perhaps be a good place to start. A couple of new defenders are likely to be sought in the meantime and a new striker may be added.
