West Ham United defender James Collins spoke highly of Newcastle United winger Andros Townsend on the Goals on Sunday show on Sky Sports 1 on Sunday morning (broadcast from 11am, May 1).
The Wales international centre-back believes that the England international has been a shining light for relegation candidates Newcastle.
Collins made the comments following Townsend’s performance against Crystal Palace at the weekend.
The former Tottenham Hotspur winger scored the only goal of the Premier League match at St. James’ Park on Saturday afternoon to guide his side to a narrow 1-0 win.
“Since he has come in, he has done very well in a team that was struggling,” said Collins about Townsend on the Goals on Sunday show on Sky Sports 1 on Sunday morning (broadcast from 11am, May 1). “He has probably been the shining light and obviously scoring goals.”
Townsend joined Newcastle from North London outfit Tottenham in the January transfer window and has established himself as a key player for Rafael Benitez’s side.
The 24-year-old has scored four goals and created 21 chances in 11 Premier League appearances for the Magpies.
The England international has a pass accuracy of 79% and a shot accuracy of 80%, and has won 21 dribbles and 21 tackles.
Newcastle are 17th in the Premier League table at the moment with 33 points from 36 matches.
