Stoke City injury victim Jack Butland jokingly eyes Rio Olympics for his comeback

The Potters stopper broke his ankle in March.

England’s excellent win against Germany in March unfortunately came at a price for Stoke City fans.

Goalkeeper Jack Butland suffered a fractured ankle just before the opening goal to see him stretchered off the pitch in agony after conceding from Toni Kroos’ shot.

He underwent surgery a few days later and is now recuperating ahead of a potential return for pre-season friendly.

However, it seems he might have his eyes on the Olympics.

The Stoke goalie is already an Olympian, having featured for the Team GB football team at London 2012.

However, there is not set to be a GB football side at Rio this summer, so what is Butland talking about?

He means in the swimming pool – although is obviously joking. He sent out this tweet earlier today suggesting his current prowess in the pool:

Well if he is aiming for the Olympics then he should hopefully be back fit and firing for Stoke City by the time pre-season rolls around.

Stoke fans will certainly hope that is the case as the young stopper was having an incredible season at the Britannia before the injury struck.
