Report: Steven Caulker unlikely to play for Liverpool again

The defender is currently on loan from Queens Park Rangers.

Liverpool defender Steven Caulker is unlikely to play again for the club having fallen far down the pecking order, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The centre-back was signed on loan from Queens Park Rangers in the January transfer window in a move that surprised everyone.

He was needed to give Jurgen Klopp further options in defence as at the time a number of injuries seriously limited the options available to the German.

However, Caulker has made just four appearances since arriving at the club and has failed to make any of the match-day squads since the middle of February.

His absence has been noted, and now it transpires that he is unlikely to feature for the Reds again before his loan deal ends.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Caulker is fully fit and available for selection but has fallen far down the pecking order and has struggled to force his way into Klopp’s thinking.

As already anticipated before this latest news, he will be allowed to return to QPR at the end of the season when his loan expires.

Where he goes from there remains to be seen, with his spell at Anfield the second disappointing loan away having also been at Southampton and struggled.
