The Magpies star has been in impressive form in recent weeks causing talk of an international return.
The winger had struggled for his best form at the club since his move from Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window.
Recent weeks have seen him shining though, and last weekend he proved key with a stunning free kick securing his side’s win over Crystal Palace.
His performances have started talk about a potential England call up this summer for Euro 2016, but Townsend insists he is only focusing on his club’ survival at this moment in time.
"You can see how much we have to focus on Newcastle at the minute so no, I'm not letting my mind think about England,” he told nufc.co.uk.
"The manager (Hodgson) knows my game inside out and he knows what I can do; if he feels that I can offer something, if he wants a player like myself in the squad, he'll pick me like he's shown before.
"But no, I'm not thinking about it. My main focus is helping Newcastle stay in the Premier League. If anything happens on the back of that, then great.”
There is no denying that Townsend’s form in recent weeks will have put him on Roy Hodgson’s radar once again.
The England manager is well known for having his favourites in the squad, and Townsend has been among them in the past, meaning a call up is not unthinkable.
Indeed, if the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott and Raheem Sterling are being considered despite struggling this year, then Townsend should also be in the selection mix.
