Hull City defender Ryan Taylor said on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (broadcast from 6am, May 2) that Jamaal Lascelles and Chancel Mbemba could form a strong central defensive partnership for Newcastle United for years to come.
“The partnership of Lascelles and Mbemba looks like it’s going to be there for the future,” said the former Newcastle defender.
Lascelles has only just started to play regularly for Newcastle, and he does look like a very promising young player.
The former Nottingham Forest youngster has a pass accuracy of 80% and a shot accuracy of 100%, and has won 39 headers, three dribbles and six tackles.
Mbemba, who joined Newcastle from Belgian giants Anderlecht in the summer of 2015, is also a very young defender and is just 21 years of age.
The DR Congo international has created three chances in 31 Premier League matches for the Magpies this campaign.
The youngster has a pass accuracy of 76% and a shot accuracy of 22%, and has won 44 headers, 18 dribbles and 60 tackles.
