Rangers youngster David Brownlie has confirmed his exit from the club.

Rangers prospect David Brownlie has confirmed he will leave the club this summer, with his contract set to expire.

Writing on Twitter, Brownlie explained he views this as his final week as a Rangers player as he leaves to try and further his career elsewhere.

Brownlie, 19, was part of Rangers' under-20 side, did not make a first team appearance for the club during his time in the academy.

At the end of every season clubs have to make tough decisions regarding young players, and with Rangers winning promotion to the Scottish Premiership, the standard required to reach the first team suddenly increased substantially.

Brownlie captained the Gers at under-17 level, and had been a regular for the under-20s this season.

The fact Rangers boss Mark Warburton had preferred to loan in Dominic Ball from Tottenham to play at centre-back this season indicated the writing was on the wall for Brownlie's chances.
