Vurnon Anita has played in Newcastle United's last four matches.
Anita was out of favour when Benitez first took over at St. James’ Park, but an injury crisis has given the Dutchman a chance.
With Daryl Janmaat out injured, Anita has been selected to start at right-back and he has been very impressive.
The 27-year-old has looked comfortable in defence, even though he is more familiar with being stationed in midfield.
And Benitez said: “He’s a player that you can trust. He always will give you everything and also the understanding of the game and the things that we are trying to do.
“He’s very focused and he’s helping a lot when we have some problems like we have now in defence.”
Anita’s impressive form - which has seen him score in during Newcastle’s recent draw with Manchester City - has helped Benitez’s side climb out of the relegation zone.
Newcastle have taken eight points from their last four matches, and they have conceded just three goals during that time.
Benitez could now have a selection headache over the coming weeks, as Janmaat is reportedly close to make a return to fitness (Shields Gazette).
