Luiz Gustavo looks set to leave Wolfsburg, can Arsene Wenger finally get his man?

Luiz Gustavo

The Brazilian international has long been linked with a move to Arsenal.

It is looking increasingly likely that VfL Wolfsburg midfielder Luiz Gustavo could be on his way this summer.

The Brazilian international was quoted by Goal.com as saying this late last month:

"When I came here, I was told to try and help build a great team.

“If we really want to be a top team, then those responsible must also play their part. Previously they have always invested in the squad and if it stays that way then will remain here.”

It was then recently reported by Kicker that Gustavo was hopeful of a Wolfsburg exit as Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande considered a move for the player this summer.

So with Gustavo apparently on his way out of the club surely this is music to the ears of Arsene Wenger – a long-time admirer of the Brazilian.

In August 2013 Arsenal made big moves to try and sign the player from Bayern Munich.

However, he instead decided to join Wolfsburg as he did not want to leave Germany.

In 2014 Arsenal were again linked with the player.

Gustavo, now with Wolfsburg, was said to be the subject of a £27.5 million bid from Arsenal, as reported by the Express, but decided to stay at Wolfsburg once again.

With Wolfsburg struggling this season it looks like Gustavo could be on his way.

He may be a bit longer in the tooth but he can play in a variety of positions and Wenger is clearly a big fan.

So don’t be surprised if Arsenal are again linked with this Brazilian international in the summer.
