Report: Besiktas want Joleon Lescott again, after failed 2014 move

The Turkish club tried to sign him for free two years ago.

This summer is bound to see plenty of Aston Villa players come and go. The club have been relegated to the Championship and plenty of Villa fans would like to see a bulk of this current team depart in the summer.

One player who has often struggled to win over the fans, despite being a Villa supporter himself, is Joleon Lescott.

Signed from West Brom in the summer the former England international has struggled to live up to his lofty expectations.

Now it is being reported in Turkey that Besiktas are looking into the possibility of signing the flop defender.

Fotospor claim that Lescott is on the list of potential signatures if they fail to finalise a deal for AC Milan defender Cristian Zapata.

Of course this is not the first time that Besiktas have been keen on Lescott.

In 2014 the then free agent Lescott was offered a deal by Besiktas with the Turkish side’s director of football Onder Ozen telling The Sun:

“Lescott is still on our transfer wish list.

“Everything will become clear at the end of the season, players will be leaving and arriving but I don’t want to disclose too much information yet.”

Lescott did not however agree to the move and instead joined Wet Brom.

Since arriving at Villa he has struggled for his best form and with the likes of Kevin Toner coming through and Nathan Baker returning from loan, Villa might decide to cash in on the underperforming defender.
