Wenger has got stuck in a philosophy at Arsenal, says Phil Thompson

The Frenchman is under increasing pressure at Arsenal after a disappointing season.

Arsene Wenger has got himself stuck in a philosophy at Arsenal; Phil Thompson has Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, broadcast April 30th.

The Gunners boss is under increasing pressure at the Emirates, with a large number of fans now calling for him to end his long reign in charge.

It comes as they scramble to secure a top four in a season where they should have been title contenders as their main rivals all struggled.

Indeed, at one point they looked to be seriously challengers and topped the table at the end of 2015, before a disastrous year so far has seen them fall away.

The blame is firmly on the manager, and Thompson says the Frenchman has gotten stuck in a philosophy that is hindering them.

“He’s not got the balance,” he told Soccer Saturday.

“This team has been very weak, he’s trying to work on a short wage structure and I think he’s gotten stuck.”

“He’s gotten stuck in a philosophy of how this team and where this team is going to go. If this team drops away, it will take a long time to come back as Arsenal should be.”

After a disappointing campaign, this summer transfer window could be one of the most important of Wenger’s reign.

It has already suggested that a major summer overhaul could be on the cards and fans will certainly been keen to see big names arriving at the club.

Top of their wish list will be a striker, with that being a position that has hampered the side since Robin van Persie’s exit.
