Jamie Redknapp says Newcastle fans should support Chelsea on Monday evening.
Newcastle United ace Andros Townsend was the hero at the weekend as he scored a rocket of a free kick to earn his side a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.
Townsend, 24, is beginning to make a telling impact for Newcastle after his January move from Spurs and now has them sitting out of the relegation zone as a result of clinching three points.
The winger is one of two major signings from English clubs Newcastle made at the time, with Jonjo Shelvey bought from Swansea City.
Jamie Redknapp told The Mail he believes Townsend's feats are highlighting how Shelvey has fallen away under Rafa Benitez.
He said: "He’s a talented boy and England fans know what he can do. He’s not always the most consistent but he has been so important for Rafa Benitez in recent weeks
"The same can’t be said for his fellow January joiner Jonjo Shelvey. He has gone from captaining the side to making cameos from the bench."
Shelvey, 24, played just two minutes against Palace at the weekend, and seven minutes of the draw against Liverpool. Against his former side Swansea he was given just 24 minutes.
Rafa Benitez evidently feels he is not ready now to make the impact he desires, with little room for error allowed. Shelvey will get more chances next season should Newcastle survive.
Redknapp added: "Newcastle are still my favourites to stay up but they must hope Chelsea win on Monday night. The last thing they want is to face a Spurs team with something to play for on the final day."
