Manchester City lost 4-2 to Southampton at St. Mary’s.
The Citizens warmed up for their Champions League clash with Real Madrid with a tricky trip to Southampton, prompting boss Manuel Pellegrini to make a number of changes to the first-team.
Among those given the chance to stake a claim for a first-team position in the Bernabeu was left-back Kolarov, replacing France international Gael Clichy who was named among the substitutes.
It was a chance to prove his worth to Pellegrini, yet Kolarov let himself and his team down badly as he displayed a poor attitude throughout and incredibly an even worse performance.
Writing on Twitter during Southampton’s crushing 4-2 win over City, Marsh and Hutchison slammed the Serbia international and picked up on his lack of effort throughout.
>All young defenders should watch video of Kolorov from the time Southampton win the ball 80 yards from City goal until Mane scores !!!— Rodney Marsh (@RodneyMarsh10) May 1, 2016
Everything you need to know about Man City this season=Kolarov!!!!!!! Not bothered what so ever..— Don Hutchison (@donhutch4) May 1, 2016
Aside from his lack of positional awareness, Kolarov’s attitude and effort to track back when caught high up the field was largely embarrassing and suggests he was not interested in being out there at all.
The 30-year-old made just one tackle and one interception of note over the course of the 90 minutes.
With Pep Guardiola coming in this summer, a number of changes to the City squad can be expected to be made and players such as Kolarov, Martin Demichelis and Wilfried Bony could well be shown the door.
