The Nigerian international has been in great form.
There is no doubt that Arsenal fans will be concluding this season as a failure.
The Gunners will end the campaign empty-handed after departures from the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup. They also failed to keep the pace with Leicester City and, more painfully, Tottenham Hotspur, in the hunt for the Premier League title.
But there have been some reasons to be positive. Hector Bellerin has come on whilst Petr Cech looks a magnificent signing.
Then there is the emergence of Alex Iwobi.
The Nigerian international, the nephew of Jay Jay Okocha, has been brilliant recently and is already very popular with the Arsenal fans.
And former Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood.
Speaking on Sky Sports Saturday Night Football this weekend (30/04/2016) the former Spurs boss stated:
“Alex Iwobi is a great talent.
“I have not heard of many lads coming through the ranks at Arsenal recently.
“He has been a shining light of their season which has been, relatively, poor.”
What Sherwood means by Arsenal bringing youngsters through would seem to relate to bringing youngsters through at the club from a young age, as they did with Jack Wilshere, or Spurs did with Harry Kane.
Iwobi, who moved to England aged four, grew up a local and joined up with Arsenal aged eight – so there is no doubt he is one of their own.
Iwobi has featured 20 times for the club this season and also made his international debut for Nigeria.
