The youngster impressed him in the 2-1 win over Bournemouth.
The Blues bounced back from their disappointing FA Cup semi final defeat to Manchester United in the right manner on Saturday as they secured a 2-1 win at Goodison Park.
With nothing left to play for this season, and his defensive options limited, Roberto Martinez opted to give Pennington his chance to impress.
He did just that as well, putting in an assured display alongside John Stones in the heart of the defence and Nicholas has praised his performance, saying he looks like a decent prospect for the club.
“He did alright,” he told Soccer Saturday.
“He played beside another youngster, I know Stones is a regular but he’s a youngster, and I think he fitted in nice. Callum Wilson gave him a few problems because of his pace, but he looked a decent prospect.”
Pennington will now be hoping he can enjoy several more starts between now and he end of the season after his Premier League debut.
His display against the Cherries will not have discouraged Martinez from giving him his chance either as he looked more than comfortable with the step up in quality.
He was more than assured in his display and Everton fans will be keen to see if he is the latest young star to roll off the production line at the club.
