The two sides meet in a huge clash next Sunday in the race for third place in the table.
The two sides are currently scrambling to secure a top four place and Champions League football, with West Ham United and Manchester Untied pursuing them in the table.
However, neither side wants to finish fourth as they would have to play a Champions League playoff next season.
Instead they are desperate to finish third and head straight into the group stages of the competition and Monreal says the upcoming game is like a final for third place, as Tottenham Hotspur will not lose their three remaining games to give up second.
“[The Man City] game is like a final,” he told arsenal.com. “The side that wins the match is going to finish third because I don’t think Tottenham are going to lose their three matches.
“So it’s a very important game. We have to take advantage of the fact they are in the Champions League semi-final and have to play a tough game against Real Madrid. We can have more rest and we hope to win.”
The clash between the two sides next weekend is certainly promising to be a huge one in that race for third, never mind the top four.
The game will surely rest on the outcome of City’s clash with Real Madrid on Wednesday as Monreal suggests. Should Manuel Pellegrini’s side win that game, their focus will almost certainly be on the final.
However a loss could see City turning their full attention back to the league and securing a win against the Gunners, something Monreal and his team will be hoping is not the case.
