Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti is flattered by Mauricio Pochettino's interest in signing him.

Lyon centre back Samuel Umtiti has told Telefoot, as quoted by Get French Football News, that he is flattered by interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Umtiti, 22, was born in Cameroon but started his career with Lyon at the age of just eight, and has made his way up through the ranks with the French giants.

Now with well over 100 appearances for Lyon and more than 40 games for France at various youth levels, Umtiti has established himself as one of the top young centre backs in Europe, which appears to have attracted plenty of interest ahead of the summer transfer window.

French newspaper L'Equipe reported last week that Tottenham are preparing a big summer move for Umtiti, with manager Mauricio Pochettino seemingly looking to add depth in the heart of his defence.

In fact, earlier this week, manager Pochettino told RMC Sport that he was a fan of Umtiti, again suggesting that Spurs are plotting to bring the Lyon star to White Hart Lane at the end of the season.

Today, Umtiti appeared on Telefoot, and was asked about the situation - and, as quoted by Get French Football News, he admitted that he is flattered by Pochettino's interest as he is a big fan of the Argentine manager.

Umtiti did also add that he would like to join Barcelona or Real Madrid, and that whilst he likes Spanish football, he is waiting until the end of the season before considering his future.

"It is flattering that Pochettino is interested in me, he is a manager that I like and his team is performing well," said Pochettino. "I want to finish this season will, that is my priority. I watch all the leagues but I think that the Spanish league suits me the best, in terms of my qualities. I like Barca as much as I like Real," he added.
