Chirivella made his Premier League debut for Liverpool against Swansea away from home at the Liberty Stadium.
The 18-year-old defensive midfielder started the match and played for 45 minutes, as the Reds lost 3-1.
Klopp has given his take on the former Spain Under-17 international’s performance. The Liverpool boss appears to be disappointed with the overall display of the youngster, although he has made some very encouraging remarks about his future prospects.
“He is a wonderful player,” Klopp told Liverpool’s official website about Chirivella’s performance. “He is a passing player and a big, big talent.
“Today he forgot to orientate himself a little bit – that’s usually his strength, knowing what’s around him. He is a really cool and calm with the ball, but today it was not a game for [this].
“Usually it could have been a game [for it], but it’s only one game in his long, long football career, so that’s not a problem. For today, it was not too easy for him.”
Against Swansea on Sunday afternoon, Chirivella failed to take a single shot, had a pass accuracy of 72%, and made one clearance.
Liverpool had 52% of the possession, took 11 shots of which three were on target, and earned seven corners.
The Reds will take on Spanish club Villarreal at Anfield in the second leg of the Europa League semi-final tie on Thursday evening.
