The former Newcastle United midfielder saw his penalty saved by Karl Darlow.
When Crystal Palace won a penalty against Newcastle United yesterday they were given a chance to earn a point on Alan Pardew’s first return to St James’ Park since leaving the club.
The ball was handed to midfielder Yohan Cabaye – himself a former Newcastle player who still has a soft spot for the Tyneside club.
So when he saw his poor penalty saved by Newcastle keeper Karl Darlow the conspiracy theorists, many of them coincidentally Sunderland fans, came out the woodwork.
The penalty was at a good saving height but surely suggestions he missed it deliberately are not fair.
The general consensus from Palace fans however is that this was coming.
Palace fans on Twitter seemed to be suggesting that they had not been impressed with his penalty kicks all season – despite being successful from 12 yards.
Instead it seems that the Palace fans would prefer to be seeing their fan favourite Mile Jedinak still taking the penalties and not the impressive Frenchman.
So rather than a deliberate miss and Cabaye attempting to save his former team from relegation it seems this miss has been on its way – it just so happened to come against Newcastle…
That Cabaye pen gets worse every time you watch it. Its harsh to say but it almost looked deliberately bad #cpfc

If Cabaye had scored the penalty today we would be mathematically safe barring a ridiculous goal dif swing #cpfc

Cabaye' s penalty pretty summed up our whole performance today #poor!

Who decided Cabaye to take the penalty as well?!

Poor choices all over the place today #CPFC
You set who's taking pens before the game. Cabaye an X Newcastle player never should be taking it. Sako should not be on pitch. Poor palace
