According to The Mirror, Arsenal will throw their hats in the ring if Bayern Munich hitman Robert Lewandowski decides to leave Germany this summer.
The Pole is one of the world's finest strikers and with the Gunners' equivalent Olivier Giroud currently enduring a 15-match goalless streak in the Premier League, few could doubt that Arsenal do not need a marksman of Lewandowski's calibre.
Danny Welbeck, who scored the winner in Saturday's 1-0 win over Norwich City, is also not really a trusted centre-forward, nor is the erratic Theo Walcott who appears to have gone off the boil significantly since the turn of the year.
In truth, the North Londoners have been crying out for a tried-and-tested striker for years, but manager Arsene Wenger has kept faith in the likes of Giroud during that time.
Consequently, Arsenal fans could be forgiven for taking such rumours with a pinch of salt, and that is precisely what a lot of Gooners have been doing on Twitter since it emerged they would try to lure the former Borussia Dortmund man to the Emirates.
If only wenger can buys lewandowski, ibra, hummels and other rumoured players, i'll forgive him— fajriabdurrahman (@fajri207) May 1, 2016
@Arsenal hahahaha and it ends with an sanogo or an giroud— Arsenal Heroes (@WrestlingHeroe1) May 1, 2016
@Arsenal no no need we have Giroud he is best striker in the world— Gööner För Ever (@gooner_kw) May 1, 2016
Unfortunately for Arsenal, and indeed Wenger, Lewandowski, whose contract expires in 2019, would cost a bomb and it does not seem like a realistic transfer. Then again, neither did the signing of Mesut Ozil until it happened in 2013.
