Although it looks like Spurs will not end up winning the title, their fans have every reason to be optimistic regarding the club's future.
Alderweireld has been a key factor in Tottenham's impressive season and has helped them become statistically the best defence in the league.
The former Ajax and Atlético Madrid man has played in every single minute of Tottenham's Premier League campaign, and the Belgium international described how hard he has been pushed this season.
"I have never worked so hard in my life as under Pochettino," he said. "It’s the end of April and we have just finished two training sessions: one in the gym and one on the pitch."
Tottenham have received praise from pundits and fans alike this season, and Alderweireld responded to comparisons with Diego Simeone's Atlético Madrid side.
“Here, at Spurs, we also train pretty tactically," the Belgian added. "The manager prepares us for every single situation, but we are more a ball-playing team than Atlético."
Tottenham head to Stamford Bridge on Monday evening for their clash with Chelsea knowing they can still mathematically win the title, although it will take an almighty collapse from Leicester for that to happen.
If Pochettino's men can wrap up second place in the Premier League, however, there is no way that their season can be judged as anything other than a success.
