Jurgen Klopp told £23.5m Liverpool target to keep his mouth shut in 2012, sold him two months later

Ivan Perisic has been linked with a move to Liverpool this summer.

A report in Italy this week has suggested that Liverpool are keen on signing Ivan Perisic from Inter Milan.

Mediaset is reporting, as relayed by Football Italia that Liverpool are willing to pay €30 million (£23.5 million) for the player – who has also been linked with Merseyside rivals Everton this week.

Of course Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will know the Croatian very well – having worked together at Borussia Dortmund.

But the pair did not always have the best of relationships.

Back in November 2012 Perisic was quoted as telling Nora-TV in his homeland:

“It is as if he has something against me.

“Klopp has his own three or four players, with whom he shares his opinions and his thoughts.”

After that, Klopp fired back. He had this to say to his winger, as reported by Goal at the time:

"A professional footballer is unhappy when he is not playing.

"If he then keeps his mouth shut, it is better for him at the end.

"Complaining in public is childish."

Did the pair make up? Not really. Just two months later and Dortmund sold him to VfL Wolfsburg as Klopp decided to move him on.

Their relationship was seemingly strained and therefore for Klopp to bring him in to Liverpool would be an extremely odd move from the German.

He is just starting to win over his changing room and has Liverpool pulling in one direction. Perisic would surely not be a wise move.
