The Atletico Madrid boss has been suggested as a potential replacement for Arsene Wenger.
In a year in which their rivals have struggled, this was the best chance for Arsenal to win the title, but instead they are scrambling to secure a top four place.
That has disappointed the Arsenal faithful, who now want Wenger to end his long reign the club to freshen things up and make them challengers again.
Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is the top of many people’s wish lists given his success with the La Liga side, and Wilkins says it would be interesting to see how the Arsenal faithful would take to his defensive style.
“They’re outstanding, they’re a fantastic team [Atletico],” he told talkSPORT.
“Whether you can come to the Premier League and take over a side like Arsenal and then implement what you’re trying to do at Atletico is something very different.”
“Arsene Wenger has done a magnificent job and they play wonderful brand of football. Atletico play a defensive brand of football. It would be interesting to see how the Arsenal supporters would receive someone like Simeone.”
It would certainly be interesting to see how Arsenal fans would take to the style that Simeone employs should he ever be employed.
He prefers a solid defensive team set up, with 1-0 wins, such as the one against Bayern Munich, something of a speciality from him and his team.
That is in stark contrast to the attacking, Barcelona-lite approach Arsenal have employed during Wenger’s reign, although given the success the Argentine has enjoyed, perhaps Gunners fans would be keen to take a different approach.
