Mark Lawrenson says a host of clubs will want Liverpool flop Benteke

The striker is expected to leave the club this summer after a dismal year at Anfield.

A host of clubs will be looking to sign Liverpool flop Christian Benteke this summer, Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Radio 5 Live.

The striker has struggled at the club this season following a big money move from Aston Villa last summer.

A big problem for him has been his inability to adapt with way the team plays with his preferred style in direct contrast to that of both Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp.

He is expected to be one of several to leave the club in the summer as the German adapts his squad to better suit his needs.

And while he has struggled, Lawrenson predicts a host of clubs will chase his signature in the transfer market regardless.

“I think somebody will definitely take a chance on Benteke,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“It’s not a big chance, I don’t think it’s a massive risk. I think he’ll be sold in the summer, I’ve got absolutely no doubt about that whatsoever.”

“He’s just not the kind of player that Klopp wants in his team, it really is that simple. I think there will be a host of clubs looking to take Christian Benteke.”

There is no denying that Benteke has the quality to succeed in the Premier League, as he showed regularly during his time at Villa Park.

It has not worked out at Liverpool for whatever reason, but a club that more suits his style of play would surely see him as a viable option for next season.

A big stumbling block is likely to be the asking price though, with the Reds sure to be keen to recoup as much as possible from the big fee they paid last year.
