Brighton, Hull and Derby will be thinking of play offs, says Hartson

The Championship table is one of the tightest in recent years at present.

Brighton, Hull City and Derby County will already be thinking about their potential opponents in the Championship play offs, John Hartson has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, broadcast on talkSPORT April 29th.

The three sides have already secured their play off spots for this season, and must now wait to see who they will face once the season is concluded.

That is because the top two places are yet to be secured, with Brighton, Middlesbrough and Burnley all locked on 47 points after 44 games.

Similarly Cardiff can still sneak into the top six as they sit just four points behind Sheffield Wednesday, who occupy sixth, in seventh place.

And Hartson says that three of those teams in particular will now be thinking about who they could face in their semi final clash.

“I think already, Brighton, Hull and Derby will be look as to who they will prefer to play in the play offs,” he told talkSPORT.

"We know that third plays sixth and fourth will play fifth and it will be a case of [them saying] ‘well how well have we done against certain teams this season?’”

“[And then] ‘ Who do we fear? Where do we see weak links defensively, who can we get at in terms of who we would like to get as opposition.'”

The play offs will certainly be one of the best contested in a number of years given how close the teams are this season.

Of those three at the top, Brighton are currently in the best form as the season closes, picking up a massive 16 points in their last six games, and teams would be keen to avoid them.

In contrast, Sheffield Wednesday have the worst form of the top six having picked up just nine from 18 in their last six and may be the team the others will fancy facing.
