Report: Recently sacked Aston Villa boss Remi Garde to be offered role in French national set-up

Rémi Garde

The Frenchman still has a good reputation in his homeland.

Aston Villa are currently on the hunt for a new manager after dismissing Remi Garde. The Frenchman had not improved the fortunes of Villa after taking over from Tim Sherwood and was shown the exit at the end of last month.

Garde could not guide Villa to safety after receiving no backing in the transfer market in January and the club have been relegated to the Championship since his departure.

The former Arsenal midfielder’s reputation has not however been tarnished and it seems he is being lined up for a job back in his homeland.

Garde, who has also worked as a TV commentator in France, is apparently in line for a job with the French Football Federation.

L’Equipe is reporting that the FFF is looking into the possibility of appointing Garde as a national technical director to help oversee the running of all the French national teams.

The same report also suggests he could step in as French under-20 boss should Pierre Markowski step down.

Garde, who is also under consideration at his former club Lyon, will surely be looking to put his Aston Villa nightmare to the back of his mind.
