Key Newcastle man lavishes praise on Benitez

Newcastle face a must win game against Crystal Palace tomorrow in the Premier League.

Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tioté has spoken of the belief and winning mentality that new manager Rafael Benitez has brought to the club, as reported by the Daily Mirror.

The North East outfit have experienced somewhat of a resurgence in their last three games, winning one and drawing two, and face a huge game home to Crystal Palace tomorrow in the Premier League.

The Ivorian midfielder told the Mirror how he puts his side's improved form down to the manager:

“He brings a different mentality. Everyone knows that if they don’t perform they will be on the bench. That is good for the team. Everyone has to fight for their chance."

Benitez is renowned for benching star players if they are not putting in the effort expected of them, and it is no surprise that Newcastle's recent haul of five points from three matches has coincided with Jonjo Shelvey losing his starting spot.

Tioté went on to say how every player has to fight for their place in the team under the Spaniard:

“When he gives you a chance you have to fight for your place to stay in the team. If you are Tioté, or another player, you have to fight to stay in the Premier League.”

Following the game against Palace, Newcastle head to already relegated Aston Villa before hosting Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the season.

Although there are no easy games in England's top flight, out of the clubs involved in the relegation scrap, Benitez's men would appear to have the easier run-in. Whether they can capitalise on it is another matter entirely.
