Alan Pardew tried to sign me at Newcastle United, Crystal Palace player claims

St James Park

Lee Chung-yong is on his way out of Palace it seems.

Crystal Palace winger Lee Chung-yong claims Alan Pardew once tried to sign him for Newcastle United, the South London Press reports, citing Sports Seoul.

The two teams face off at St. James' Park on Saturday, with Newcastle keen to put one over their former boss and climb out of the Premier League's bottom three.

However, if what Lee says is true, the South Korean could have been lining up against the Eagles instead.

"Pardew said he had wanted to sign me at Newcastle as well," Lee was quoted as saying by the South London Press.

And the 27-year-old cites Pardew's prolonged pursuit as the reason behind his transfer to Crystal Palace from Bolton Wanderers in February 2015.

He adds: "It seemed that he really wanted to sign me so I decided to join Crystal Palace."

Lee's Selhurst Park days appear to numbered after he slammed Pardew in the same interview, calling him hot tempered and accusing him of making absurd decisions - including not knowing how many substitutes he has used.

And the 72-cap star's move to Newcastle move could yet be reignited after revealing he will try talking to other clubs this summer.

The Magpies will presumably have bigger fish to fry if they avoid the drop this season, with Lee far more likely to make the switch if Rafa Benitez's team fall into the Championship, you'd think.
