Spurs fans have created some great atmospheres at White Hart Lane, and they have driven their team on to success.
Tottenham’s positive results on the field have created great excitement around the club, and the optimism that is felt from supporters has been evident at matches.
Spurs fans have not turned on their team, even when things haven’t been going for them, and Alderweireld has praised their loyalty.
“The fans have been unbelievable this season, even at the start when we weren’t second or third, they have supported us throughout,” the Belgian defender said.
“They have seen the work we’ve put in, they know we are a young squad and we give everything. The crowd can feel that and I think they are feeling something special is happening at this club.”
Tottenham could only draw their last match against West Bromwich Albion 1-1, and it means that the Premier League title may well be out of sight now.
Spurs are seven points behind Leicester City, and they have just three games remaining to catch Claudio Ranieri’s side.
Tottenham fans did not boo when the final whistle went against West Brom, though, and Alderweireld says that the squad feel that they have to pay their supporters back through their performances this term.
“Even when the whistle went against West Brom and it was 1-1, they were still right behind the team and that’s very important for us. That’s why we want to give the fans as much as possible,” he added.
“We want to give them the title, okay, now that’s difficult, but if we give them the Champions League next season it’s the right step. We have to finish it off of course and do our jobs but hopefully that’s something to look forward to next season.”
Tottenham’s three matches remaining this season come against Chelsea, Southampton and Newcastle United.
