Slaven Bilic responds when asked whether Reece Burke will be in West Ham United's first team next season

Reece Burke has impressed on a loan spell at Bradford City from West Ham United.

Slaven Bilic has told West Ham United’s official site that he still has not made his mind up on whether Reece Burke will be part of his first-team next season.

Burke has spent this season out on loan at Bradford City, and the youngster’s performances have caught the eye at League One level.

The centre-back recently won the Bantams’ Player of the Season award, and there is great excitement about his future with the Hammers.

However, Bilic has suggested that the 19-year-old could be loaned out again next season to a Championship club.

“I like Reece. He already played some friendlies and in Europe for us. He’s a very clever player,” the Croatian boss said. “It was and still is part of the plan for a few to go on loan, minimum one year, maybe two, for them to improve, and them to come back with a clear situation.

“To say, you will play a part for West Ham and be an important player for the squad. After that, we will decide if he’s going to do another year, and that has to be at least the Championship, or he’s going to stay with us. He will stay with us only if he has a good chance to play.”

Burke has made 34 appearances for Bradford so far this season, and he has helped Phil Parkinson’s men mark a charge for the play offs.

The England youth international is part of an exciting crop of youngsters currently breaking through at West Ham.

The likes of Elliot Lee, Josh Cullen and Martin Samuelsen have all made positive impressions at League One level this term - and they could be part of West Ham senior squad for next season.
