The Reds were beaten 1-0 in Spain courtesy of a last minute goal.
The two sides met in the first leg of their Europa League semi final tie on Thursday looking to secure a positive result and take a step towards the final.
In the end it was a largely lifeless affair with chances few and far between, until a last minute goal from Adrian Lopez secured a 1-0 win for the Spaniards.
It was a bitter blow for Jurgen Klopp’s side, who would have been pleased to take a 0-0 draw to Anfield for the second leg, and Collymore believes that the German should come in for criticism.
Gotta say even if it had finished 0-0 Liverpool have missed a trick the way they played tonight! Looked like a pre season game!— Don Hutchison (@donhutch4) April 28, 2016
Late, late blow for Liverpool. Still in it though.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) April 28, 2016
Bitter blow to take that!looked so comfortable. But not the end of it by any means.A clean sheet at home we go through!!!!— John Aldridge (@Realaldo474) April 28, 2016
The Reds will now be hoping they can produce another special nigh at Anfield to secure their progression into the final of the competition after the bitter blow in Spain.
They will certainly be confident of doing so though, having managed to overcome far superior competition in the shape of Dortmund in the last round.
