The Bayern Munich star has been linked to a reunion with Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool

Borussia Dortmund would be interested in a move for Mario Gotze this summer, CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has confirmed via Sky Sports.

The Germany star is currently at Dortmund’s rivals Bayern Munich, who he joined on a free transfer in 2013 in controversial circumstances.

It has not been a happy time for him at the Allianz though, as he has found game time increasingly hard to come by under Pep Guardiola especially.

That has led to talk of a move away this summer, with Premier League side Liverpool, now led by Jurgen Klopp, thought to be particularly keen according to a report from the Guardian.

It seems the Reds will face a fight for his signature though, with Watzke confirming his old club will discuss a deal should he be available.

““Mario Gotze is a player of Borussia Dortmund. He came up through the youth teams and he is highly regarded - also by me personally,” Sky Sports reports him saying.

"If he was on the market, and we heard Bayern wanted to sell, then of course we would discuss it."

While Dortmund’s interest would not be welcomed by Liverpool in their pursuit of Gotze, they could be confident of securing his signature anyway.

He enjoyed the best years of his short career so far under the guidance of Klopp and it is a partnership he would surely be keen to rekindle given the chance.

He would also be among the first choice at Anfield should he join, a position he may not enjoy were he to return to Dortmund instead.
