Ray Houghton has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 28th April, that he is worried about Celtic’s squad, when he looks at it in comparison to Rangers’.
Houghton is a famous Celtic fan, but he was concerned by their recent defeat in the Old-Firm derby.
Rangers knocked Ronny Deila’s side out of the Scottish Cup in the semi-final on penalties earlier in the month.
In the match, the Ibrox side had looked the more impressive team - and their victory was a fully deserved one.
Houghton now fears that Rangers could have the ability to overtake Celtic in the future, as their transfer strategy has been more productive.
“Celtic looked like an ageing team with no legs [against Rangers],” the former Republic of Ireland international said.
“That’s what I’m looking at, and I’m looking at Rangers and they look young with a lot of energy. Where are the Celtic players coming through?
“It comes down to recruitment and it’s going to be a tough job, whoever takes over there.
“It’s not just about winning the title, it’s about how well you do in Europe.”
Rangers are set to join Celtic in the Scottish Premiership next season, and they will be looking to end their Glasgow rivals’ period of dominance.
The Bhoys have been very successful since Rangers hit financial problems, but Mark Warburton’s side are looking threatening.
The Gers have targeted young players in the last two transfer windows, and they have absolutely dominated the Scottish Championship this term.
